Learn publishes plain-English educational guides about VA health care, treatment access, and family support for veterans and families affected by mesothelioma and asbestos exposure. Because our subject matter touches health, money, and legal rights all at once, this page sets out three disclaimers that apply to every article, every page, and every email we send. Please read all three.
1. Independence — we are not the VA
This site is independent and is NOT affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) or any government agency. For official information, visit VA.gov.
We are a private editorial project. We are not a VA contractor, not a veterans service organization, and not an accredited representative. Nothing published here is an official VA statement, and no article changes, interprets, or overrides VA policy, regulation, or a decision on your case.
Only the VA can determine your eligibility, enroll you in health care, assign a priority group, approve community care, or decide a claim. Official forms, applications, appeals, and decisions come only through VA.gov, VA medical centers, VA regional offices, and accredited representatives. If a website — including ours — ever appears to be filing something on your behalf, it is not. We do not transmit anything to the VA, we do not hold claim files, and we cannot check the status of your case.
Be careful with sites that use VA seals, government-style branding, or urgent “deadline” language. When something matters, verify it at VA.gov or by calling the VA directly at 800-827-1000.
2. Medical disclaimer
The health information on this site — including our guides to surgery options, immunotherapy, pulmonary function testing, pain management, home oxygen, nutrition services, physical therapy, and second opinions — is provided for general education only. It is not medical advice, and it is not a diagnosis, a treatment recommendation, or a substitute for care from a qualified professional.
We are not physicians, oncologists, nurses, or licensed clinicians, and reading this site does not create a physician-patient relationship. Mesothelioma and asbestos-related disease are complex, individual, and fast-moving; what is appropriate for one veteran may be wrong for another. Always consult a licensed physician or your VA care team about your symptoms, test results, treatment options, medications, clinical trials, and any decision about your care.

Our explanations of VA programs, eligibility rules, and benefit processes are general educational information. They are not legal advice, and they are not advice about your particular claim. No attorney-client relationship is created by reading this site, by emailing our support address, or by anything published here. We are not attorneys, claims agents, or accredited representatives, and we cannot represent you.
For help with a claim, an appeal, or a survivor benefit, speak with a VA-accredited attorney, an accredited claims agent, or a Veterans Service Officer at an organization such as the VFW, DAV, or the American Legion. VSO assistance is generally free, and the VA maintains a searchable directory of accredited representatives.
We never guarantee, predict, or promise an outcome. Every claim, enrollment decision, and appeal turns on individual facts: service dates and duty assignments, exposure evidence, medical documentation, current regulations, and the record before the decision-maker. When our articles say a veteran “may qualify” or that the VA “generally” does something, that wording is deliberate and should be read literally.
Accuracy and currency
VA rates, copay amounts, income thresholds, priority group rules, and program names change — usually every year, sometimes more often. We date our articles, cite the year of any figure we quote, and link to the official VA tables rather than presenting numbers as permanent fact. Even so, an article you are reading may predate a change. Always confirm current figures and rules on official VA pages before you rely on them.
