Learn is a free, independent, education-only guide to VA health care, treatment access, and family support for veterans and families affected by mesothelioma and asbestos exposure. Producing that kind of material takes research time, and something has to pay for it. This page explains exactly how the site earns money — and, just as importantly, how it does not.
How this site is funded
learn.lyricalguy.com is supported by Google AdSense display advertising. Ad units appear in and around our articles. They are served by Google’s ad systems, filled by advertisers we have never met, and labeled by the ad network so readers can tell them apart from our writing. We do not choose the individual advertisers, we are not paid by them directly, and we have no business relationship with any company whose ad happens to appear next to a guide about mesothelioma surgery options or VA home oxygen therapy.
Advertisements are visually distinguishable from editorial content. We do not disguise ads as article links, “related reading,” or recommended next steps, and we do not place ads in a way designed to be mistaken for a VA form, a government notice, or a call to action from our editorial team.
Advertisers do not influence what we publish
Editorial and advertising are entirely separate at Learn. No advertiser reviews an article before publication, suggests a topic, requests a change, or has any say in what we conclude. Our writers do not know which ads will run alongside their work, because Google decides that dynamically after the page is published.
Our topic selection is driven by what veterans, spouses, and caregivers actually need to understand — beneficiary travel, community care, second opinions, My HealtheVet, caregiver support, talking to children about a diagnosis — not by which subjects attract higher-paying ads. Our sourcing and review standards are set out in our Editorial Policy, and they apply without exception regardless of advertising.
What we do not do
As of the effective date above, this site has:
- No affiliate relationships. We earn no commission from any link on this site. Our outbound links point mainly to VA.gov, benefits.va.gov, cancer.gov, cdc.gov, and similar official or nonprofit sources.
- No sponsored posts. No article on this site was paid for, commissioned, or supplied by an outside party.
- No paid product placements or paid reviews. We do not accept money, gifts, equipment, or trips in exchange for coverage.
- No lead generation. There is no “free case evaluation” form, no phone-capture widget, and no contact form of any kind. We do not collect, broker, or sell reader information as leads.
We specifically never accept payment from law firms, treatment centers, insurance companies, claims-services companies, or any organization that profits from a veteran’s claim or diagnosis. Much of the competing content in this niche exists to funnel a grieving family into a sales call. That is not what this site is for, and refusing that money is a deliberate editorial choice.
If that ever changes
If we ever accept sponsored content, an affiliate arrangement, or any other form of compensated placement, we will disclose it clearly and conspicuously — at the top of the affected article and on this page — and label the material “Sponsored” or “Advertisement” as appropriate. That is both our own standard and the requirement of the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s endorsement guidelines at 16 CFR Part 255. A disclosure buried in a footer or written in faint small print does not meet that standard, and we would not use one.
Ads and your privacy
Google and other third-party vendors use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Ad revenue and your decisions
Our income depends on people reading our guides — not on what they do afterward. We are paid the same whether you apply for VA health care, seek a second opinion, contact a Veterans Service Officer, or simply close the tab. No article on this site is written to push you toward a particular benefit, provider, or filing decision, and we never promise an outcome. If you ever feel an ad on this site is misleading, inappropriate for our audience, or appears to be impersonating the VA, please tell us at support@learn.lyricalguy.com so we can report and block it.
